How to Become a Veterinary Nurse

If you are looking at a nursing career but prefer working with animals than humans, you may want to consider becoming a veterinary nurse.

Veterinary nurses (also known as veterinary technicians) work primarily with animals instead of people. In order become a veterinary nurse there are several things that you will need to do.

First, you will need to make sure that you take extra science and math courses in high school. After you have finished high school you will take a two year associate’s degree in veterinary technology, preferably one that is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. Once you have completed this program you will need to take (and pass!) the National Veterinary Technician exam in order to prove that you have absorbed the information in your training.

Once you have passed your exam you can then start applying to vet clinics or hospitals (usually in entry level positions) in order to start your career as a veterinary nurse!
